NiE Advocacy strategy for LACRO

This regional advocacy strategy, developed by UNICEF in collaboration with the Global Nutrition Cluster (GNC), sets out a clear and practical framework to elevate the visibility and prioritization of nutrition in emergencies across Latin America and the Caribbean. In a region increasingly affected by climate shocks, migration, and complex humanitarian crises, the document responds to a critical gap: the persistent under-recognition of nutrition as a life-saving intervention before, during, and after emergencies.

Grounded in evidence and informed by country experiences, the strategy outlines a coherent approach to influence governments, donors, and humanitarian partners. It focuses on three core pillars: strengthening preparedness, building technical and institutional capacity, and mobilizing sustainable financing for nutrition in emergencies. By addressing systemic barriers such as limited data, weak narratives, and insufficient coordination, as well as opportunities for action, it provides actionable guidance to drive policy change and investment.

Designed as a practical and adaptable tool, the strategy supports country offices and partners in translating regional priorities into context-specific advocacy actions. Ultimately, it aims to ensure that nutrition interventions are timely, adequately funded, and effectively integrated into emergency responses, so that the most vulnerable children and women are protected, malnutrition is prevented, and lives are saved.
