Global Launch: IYCF-E Counselling Training Package for Frontline Workers

This multilingual webinar took place on Thursday, 11 June, 14:00 – 15:00 CEST/Geneva time

Watch recording (EN, FR, AR, ES)

This event is the official launch of the Infant and Young Child Feeding in Emergencies (IYCF-E) Counselling Training Package for Frontline Workers, developed by Save the Children and partners in collaboration with UNICEF.

Designed for community health workers, peer counsellors, frontline service providers, programme managers, and trainers working in humanitarian settings, this practical training package strengthens person-centered, trauma-informed counselling skills to support caregivers facing crisis, displacement, food insecurity, disease outbreaks, and disrupted services.

The package is intended to complement the UNICEF Community IYCF Counselling Package by strengthening counselling competencies for emergency contexts.

Grounded in realistic emergency scenarios and designed for offline use, the package helps frontline workers provide responsive, empathetic, and context-appropriate support in challenging environments. It also integrates key cross-cutting issues, including:

  • Trauma-informed care
  • Staff wellbeing and stress regulation
  • Gender-transformative approaches and engagement of fathers
  • Support for survivors of gender-based violence
  • Disability inclusion
  • Early childhood development
  • Infectious disease considerations
  • Remote counselling
  • Support for infants who are not breastfed
