Capacity Strengthening

All our capacity-strengthening activities are grounded in the GNC Capacity Development Framework. Our goal with these activities is to strengthen the capacity of nutrition actors at all levels by enhancing their expertise to effectively scale up nutrition interventions.

The GNC Capacity Development Framework

We are committed to supporting local, national, and global humanitarian actors through capacity strengthening. This dynamic and collaborative process focuses on further developing the skills and knowledge of individuals and organisations, enabling them to grow professionally in the field of nutrition in emergencies.

To achieve this, we developed the GNC Capacity Development Framework: a multi-level capacity development pathway to support learning in Nutrition Cluster Coordination, Information Management, and cluster partner development. There are four levels in the framework: introductory, general, advanced and master. While there are no strict rules for transitioning between levels, we recommend progressing from introductory to master level to ensure a smooth journey towards mastering the required competencies.

GNC Capacity Development Framework

This framework offers accessible, tailored learning opportunities that meet specific needs, and supports learners in achieving the competencies outlined in the GNC Competency Frameworks for Nutrition Cluster Coordination and Information Management. It is also helpful to those interested in our competency framework for Nutrition in Humanitarian Context

The GNC team manages the Capacity Development Framework, overseeing key activities including the six main capacity strengthening opportunities listed below. Additionally, they facilitate access to outsourced trainings and workshops in collaboration with other Office of Emergency Programmes (EMOPS) members, such as the Humanitarian Leadership Workshop and the Coaching & Leadership Training, which are part of the Master Level.

The GNC supports development for those aiming for master-level competencies and leadership roles by promoting these pathways and encouraging collaboration with country-level practitioners to create case studies and webinars. In addition to these core services, the GNC also offers ad hoc and external capacity strengthening opportunities tailored to our target audiences.

If you are interested in either Master-level opportunities or ad hoc capacity strengthening opportunities, please reach out to the GNC team

3. Tailored Training Using a 'Blended Learning Approach'

Our blended learning approach provides a tailored group training experience by addressing specific knowledge gaps based on needs. It combines self-paced eLearning on GNC Learn with instructor-led virtual practical sessions. To participate in this group training, country clusters must make a request to the GNC team who will then propose a training program based on the participant's requirements.

This training is designed for cluster teams, partners and observers participating in nutrition cluster activities. To ensure effective learning, the groups for blended training should not exceed 25 participants.
