Current Challenges
  • Somalia is facing the worst drought since 2011 including some areas at the risk of famine or likely famine. the drought is due to four successive failed rainy seasons.
  • The drought has resulted in widespread livestock deaths, poor harvest, and inadequate water availability.
  • High food prices as a result of the severe drought and the global economic crisis (high oil prices, high global cereal prices etc).
  • Regular outbreaks of communicable diseases including AWD/Cholera and Measles.
  • Ongoing conflict preventing the delivery of humanitarian assistance to rural populations. The conflict is also causing massive displacement of populations to the urban centres overwhelming the existing humanitarian assistance capacities in the arrival locations.
